I am a soon to be first time mom. I had colics when I was an infant, and actually, every now and then I still get them. I'm terrified at the thought of my baby having colics especially knowing how painful they are. Of course, just becuase I had them, doesn't mean my baby will, but why not prevent it from happening?
My question is, what bottle brand do you think is best for babies? I looked into Dr. Browns and they seemed to have by far the best feedback. Another thing to consider is that I will be trying to feedfeed. I say trying because I'm not sure how successful I will be, so I may be switching from breast to bottle (if I start pumping because the baby won't latch or when I return to school).
Thank you for all your help in advance!!

For Texas: Thank you for your response, but just so YOU know, Colics, by definition are : a sudden attack of abdominal pain, often caused by spasm, inflammation, or obstruction. There is no AGE LIMIT for colics. I have intestinal problems as well as Acid Reflux (definition: upward ejection of acid from the stomach into the esophagus, causing pain known as heartburn) and I am well aware that just because I have these conditions, it does mean my baby will have them. I did mention that on my originial question. The purpose of this question is to try and find bottles that moms thought worked well for their babies and did not cause gas or colics for their babies. It is my attempt to prevent my baby from going through colics, even though I know she may not go through colics all together.

I have 3 kids and each kid liked a different type of bottle. I preferred the bottles with disposable liners because they were easy to clean and the nipples where easy to replace. They also allow you to release the air that is trapped inside a bottle. Another type that my daughter liked was the air vents bottles that are at an angle. It allowed for easier feeding and the baby didn't take in air while that were drinking. But each baby is different. If you find that your baby doesn't seem to like a particular nipple try a different style. My daughter was partial to the clear nipples and my was partial to brown nipples.
One further note. my son who is 2 was born with acid reflux which can be diagnosised as being gassy or cholic. If your baby seems to be cholicy and the mylanta gas drops(miracle in a bottle) don't seem to work talk to your pediatrician. His acid reflux can him to stop breathing for a few seconds because he couldn't swallow and breath at the same time. His pediatrician said that more children are being born with acid reflux and are being diagnosises incorreclty.

Okay you do NOT still get colic you are way to old for that. Secondly just because you had it doesnt mean your child will. Dr' Browns is a good bottle as is the disposable nursing system by Playtex. You do not have to breastfed or even pump if you dont want to do what you are most comfortable doing
This is the definition of COLIC "Infant colic (also known as baby colic and three month colic) is a condition in which an otherwise healthy baby cries or screams frequently and for extended periods, without any discernible reason.
The condition typically appears within the first two weeks of life and almost invariably disappears, often very suddenly, before the baby is three to four months old [1]. It is more common in bottle-fed babies, but also occurs in breast-fed infants. The crying frequently occurs during a specific period of the day, often in the early evening.
Since the cause is not conclusively established (see below) and the amount of crying differs between babies, there is no general consensus on the definition of "colic". Having ruled out other causes of crying, a common rule of thumb is to consider a baby "colicky" if it cries intensely more than three days a week, for more than three hours, for more than three weeks in a month"

I suggest you do some research on some of the things you are talking about.
Breastfeeding is not as easy as some people say, but it gets easier.
I breastfeed and use Playtex dropins and a playtex manual pump. No pumping will ever be as good as your baby sucking though. The baby makes the milk come!
I think you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. There is nothing you can do about a baby having Colic. Matter of fact I dont even believe in Colic. I believe babies need to be held and fed and burped and maybe the occasional gas drops.

I tried the Dr browns and my daughter ended up with a LOT of gas. I put her on the drop ins and she does great. Every baby is different.....
She did have colic and I purchased a product called colic calm and it is WONDEFUL. Pricey but worth every penny!!! It is homeopathic so either it will work or its not going to. Plus it has no side effects/ I actually had an upset stomach a few weeks ago and took it and my stomach was better in about 2 minutes!!
Good Luck and congratulations!!!

Avent bottles worked really well for my daughter. I plan to use them again with my next baby.
We also used the Dr. Brown's Wide Mouth. Since we still have them, we'll use them, too. There are several parts to them but they do work well and if you've got a dishwasher and get a little dishwasher basket in which you can wash all the parts to your bottles, it's not a big deal.
My daughter was born 15 weeks premature, so it was a challenge for her to learn to nurse. We had to go between bottles and breast constantly. The Avent seemed to be the easiest for her to switch to and from.
If you haven't had a baby shower yet, ask for the different kinds of bottles you want. That way, you get a chance to try them out without spending money yourself. If you don't like any of them, toss the nipples, and donate the bottles to your local crisis pregnancy center.
Good luck and congratulations!

It depends on the baby. My daughter only liked a certain type of bottle. I got like 30 bottles at the baby shower we had before my daughter was born and we could only use 2 of them because she didn't like any of the rest. I ended up donating the rest of the bottles. So I would only have a few different types and which ever ones the baby likes then use them.

I personally love the Soothie bottles, but what the doctor told me is to get one of several different types of bottles and try each one 2 or 3 times in a row and see which one your baby likes best, then go buy lots of that one. That way you arent buying alot of bottles your baby hates and then have to go buy more..

Playtex nursers work great (the ones with the drop in bags). I used them with both of my children. Advent nursers are OK - I used them with my niece, but they weren't as good as Playtex. Playtex is so convenient, easy to heat (because I never believe in putting a baby's bottle in the microwave), and you don't have to fuss with it to keep the air out of the baby's tummy. You squeeze the air out of the bag and no matter what angle the bottle is in, you are good to go! Good luck!

Depends on the baby really. I had to go several different types of bottles before I found one my son did well on. Don't spend a lot of $$ up front loading up on one type of bottle. Try a few out before you settled on one kind.

SECOND NATURE bottles-are THE best, they come with an all stage nipple--and they are the closest bottle to the breast
I got mine on ebay--but I think they sell them at BRU
and the best thing is--they dont leak, so baby wont choke and nothing will spill out when you shake it up.
