If you find out let me know. I hate my step dad and my mother-in-law!

Sounds like my family. I used to tell them everything so they wouldn't think I was trying to hide anything from them or being selfish. But I got tired of answering every petty little question and then criticizing my answers. So, I started to reciprocate: do the same to them what they've been doing to me. I basically behave like them and get into their everything. After having answered my questions, they don't have the time and energy to "dig" into mine.

How would they know anything without the information being leaked out?

Set up boundaries, stick to them, refuse to talk about the matter, and just drop the subject.

Just kinda laugh, and don't answer them, or make something really crazy up like "I won the lottery" or "I got it from Publishers Clearing House". Enough of that will make them realize (hopefully) they are being nosy and you aren't going to tell them anything that isn't their business.

Treat them with respect and tell them you are so glad they are so concerned as to just how you were able to get things, but although it is really none of their business and you would appreciate them being not so concerned tell them you have worked for everything, and thank them-------------they will most likely not ask you again.

just start being very general in your answers like, here and there, i have my sources, and silly little things like that until they get tired of it...maybe they are just trying to be polite and show interest and that's they way they do it.

You need to set up some boundaries, and don't let them cross it.
