What does it mean when people say "M.I.A."??? Like on I love New York, when white boy went home, and chance and real said "M.I.A. dawg!".....what does that mean?

Why would they yell Missing in Action to their friend as he's leaving? That doesn't make sense.....

M.I.A. means missing in action. Why the person on I love New York would say it, is beyond me. Guess that goes to prove that not all people on television are educated. Thank you.

MIA = Missing In Action. Its the same term that is applied to soldiers who go into combat but never return.

It is similar to AWOL = Absent Without Leave

EDIT-------
Why? It implies that he is entering combat and they won't know for sure until he comes back.

If he's leaving, and his friends don't know where he's going, he would be considered "going MIA"
