Okay, I'm 13 and have taken 3 years of dance earlier in my childhood (at ages like 5 and 6 for ballet, and then age 9 for hip hop). I really enjoy it (I'm taking a ten week dance class), but I'm not that good. I would love to take a class that goes for the whole year, but I figured most of the girls in the class would be experienced and really good. Should I just get over my fear or find another hobby I might enjoy?

Even having "get over my fear" as an option is a great start. If you love it and are passionate about it, just have a good time, and who cares what anyone else thinks. If it makes it any easier, try finding a studio where you don't know anyone, maybe a considerable distance away, so that if you DO feel embarassed, it's not in front of people you know. Or go with a friend and look awful together. It's your passion that will take you places.

i am 23 and didn't start till i was 22. it was always a hobby but was not introduced to it cuz i was a guy. now I'm going after it and haven't been happier. at 13 you have the time to go after it and still change your mind. about the fear side of it. all i can say is to just dance as though no one is watching and follow the rhythm of your soul.

I would go for it! I love to dance! I'm in ballet and just recently started en pointe. (Dancing on my toes) It hurts terribly right now, but I love to dance! Always go for your dreams! That and, if you don't start now, and you want to later, you'll be 25, wishing you had taken that class to get you ahead when you were 13.

Best of luck!

You are successful at things you are passionate about.

Worry about dancing status will crush your passion. Instead of being jealous over other dancers talents try making friends with them through compliments and asking for help. Most people love to share talents they have because it makes their talent stronger.
