Hi Everyone,
I'm a newbie at car maintenance, and need your help....
Today i just noticed a small puddle of fluid on the garage floor, under the car it looks like oil ... (front, drivers side)
look under the car and can see nothing untoward, no corrosion etc.
I have to drive to the airport -2 hours drive-, and want to know what's wrong.
PS:I drove like two hours 3 days before. It is a VW 98.
Thanks!

Back the car up and look at the fluid that is on the floor......Look and see what color it is.....If it is a reddish color it maybe transmission fluid, if it is a darker fluid but thinner than oil it could be break fluid.....
Is it a front wheel drive?---if so inspect the CV boot cover...it could leak grease from here...

If you can not find where it is coming from, take it to a mechanic that you trust...
Good Luck..

all the other answer are very helpful,I no need to repeat. Here i only suggest you that to check the following fluid level;engine oil, transmission fluid level and brake fluid ,power steering fluid level according to the owner Manuel.then you can find out what system are leaking. If you have no time to fix your car and the leaking not serious(if your car part there for weeks) then fill the leaking fluid to or slight above level and carry one extra can with you and take some risk to drive to air port.By the way that puddle could be air condition condense water that is normal.

It's pretty hard to find the leak sometimes. The best way is to get it on a lift in a garage. Just keep a close eye on the oil, transmission fluid and power steerring fluid levels until you can get it checked.

I would strongly suggest that you take it to a garage (hopefully not too far a drive) and get them to check it out. It could be any one of a number of fluids (oil, transmission fluid, coolant, power steering or brake fluid). I wouldn't take a chance on a trip to the airport until getting the problem fixed.
