A ship enters the Panama Canal through the west end and exists through the east end of the Panama Canal. Immediately after exiting, the ship is in the Pacific Ocean. How can this be?

The canal actually runs in a largely north-south direction, and the atlantic end is somewhat to the west of the pacific end.

I believe the canal runs from the atlantic entrance nw to se at the pacific entrance. The pacific entrance is farther east than the atlantic. The ithimus of Panama runs roughly west to east at this point.

Some other trick geography questions: Farther north - the Canadian Niagera Falls or the American Falls?

Farther West - Reno Nev or Los Angeles CA?

What country is just below Detroit Mich?

Trick question: the Panama canal is oriented Southeast-Northwest, with the western end emptying into the Atlantic.

the panama canal is turned bac ok itself like an S curve. the pacific is east in that area

Panama is shaped as the Letter S..there for the curves of the S makes us have the East to your west and the West to your East...

Is the ship entering frrom north of the Atlantic? In that case, the Pacific would be on the ship's right(east) side.
