I believe there was a big flood in both KY, Paduca was under water, and in Georgia near Montezuma and Plains.

Try visiting a library, sometimes they have archived newspapers in microfiche and you can find anything you want. If you happen to live around London, try the Queen Mary University of London library and search in the Times newspaper using the above method. I used the same method to find information about Titanic the day it sank and it was amazing!
