My first year playing fantasy baseball think my team will do well. Any experts out there care to give an opinion?

Thanks I have to go back and read the rules regarding scoring. Maybe I can find a closer somewhere.

lets look at this player by player

c- piazza will get ya 20-30 homers playing as dh and more value with eligibilty at catcher
1b- texieria is a great young player could hit close to 45 homers this year
2b- cano will hit around .320 an hit 20 homers wont break 100 rbi mark but great upside
3b- crede dont expect him to repeat last years 30 homer season but will put up decent numbers
ss- young one of the best ss good for 20+/100/.315
of- figgins is hurt as of right now but once returns is in top tier of sb in league good for 50 or so
of- abreu is a stud all around good for 20/110/.310 and 20 sb
of- lee is a stud as well good for 30/100/.300 and 20 sb as well both 5 category tools
util- fielder could have soph slump or hit close to 35 homers it goes either way
bn- larocho wont hit 32 homers this year in pitt but good for 25 or so and bats around .300
bn- chavez look for him to regain old form and put up somehwat gaudy numbers
bn- markakis is underrated good average and decent pop
bn- kinsler will not quite get you cano numbers but around there with more sb than cano
bn- willingham good for 20 homers but thats about it

p- johan ...can you say cy young? lol
p- smoltzy is aging but good for close to 200 k and 15 wins and era around 3.50
p- matt cain is going to be a star if healthy will get you 200 k or close to it will assume role of ace in a year or two
p- burnett if healthy bags ya 14 wins and 160 k
p- broxton will assume closer role by years end
p- garcias era will drop a full point in nl

i would say your team needs a true closer...someone who is legit maybe you could package up markakis and laroche for a closer or if you dont want to do that scour the waiver wire for a salomon torres, joel zumaya, jorge julio, or mike gonzalez,

but your lineup has a excellent mix of speed and power on it
youll get plenty of steals from your entire outfield and power from all around

if you are looking to pick up a couple of sleepers for your bench you could look at chris duncan, adrian gonzalez, jonny gomes, or ty wigginton

or

some sleeper pitchers worth looking at are jeremy sowers, adam wainwright, clay hensley, and chuck james

hope i helped
goodluck and have fun!

Your daily lineup shoud be pretty solid, but another answer was correct that you certainly need a closer. Check out the new Marlins closer, Julio. He may still be available. Try to get 2 or 3 closers to get saves.

Here is some strategy for you. Most leagues offer 2-4 slots for starting pitchers. The other slots labeled "P" can be filled with either a relief pitcher or a starter. Consider keeping a small bench of position players and fill up the slots with the best relief pitchers you can. Those middle relief pitchers can pick up wins, strikeouts and occasionally a save and make a difference for you in the standings. You may find a good pitcher that is being used in relief now that can fill a "SP" slot on your lineup. Why waste the slot when your regular starting pitchers are not playing that day?

For example, your top first baseman is Texieria with Prince Fielder right behind. Adam LaRoche is OK, but if either Tex or Prince get hurt you can get someone equal to LaRoche off waivers...why waste the roster slot now?

Another consideration is your backup catcher. This will probably be Piazza's last year with catcher eligibility; he will be the everyday DH for the A's. Do you really want to keep Willingham as well? He is someone I would consider dumping for another relief pitcher.

Chavez is a good third baseman; both he and Crede have injury concerns. I would keep both, at least until Figgins gets better. Chone Figgins is out for about 5 weeks with a broken finger. When you are able to place him on the Disabled List do so and pick up a replacement for your roster (another relief pitcher???)

Whatever you do DO NOT DUMP Markakis-unless you are in my league then do so quickly so I can pick him up. He is going to have a very good year. Put him in the OF slot now open because of the Figgins injury. You will probably keep him there all year and move Figgins to another position.

So, keep a small bench, get more relief pitchers and use them everyday you can. Good Luck this year!

I would give your team an A. You have great hitting (average and power) and amazing pitchers. But, you might want to pick up a better third baseman, like Melvin Mora.

B-

You've got a good offense and some great starters, but you have no closers. Broxton might take over eventually, but for now you won't get any saves and that will kill you. Drop Markakis and find youself a closer.

"A" because you have killer hitting and starting pitching which is almost all you need for a good team.
