GCSE is a series of exams held from end of may to end of June to year 11 s (16 year olds)
It enables them to then leave school and work or go to college and do A2 level exams
Standard papers are in English Maths and Science
All others are on the curriculum
They are taken as a series of papers and some subjects have orals and coursework that goes toward the grade

Genreal Certificate of Secondary Education.

5 GCSEs required to quallify, Cs required to pass. And you sit them at differnt times and rarley on the same day.
