There are spots along the road to Mount Hamilton where you can stop and look down on San Jose.

Try the neighborhood just before the Mount Hamilton road & Alum Rock. If you can see through the fenses, there is a lovely view.

The hill by hwy 87 has a nice view. I think you take the Capital exit and work your way there.

Try the hills in Milpitas for another perspective.

From Grant Ranch County Park you can look west across the city. If you go over to Black Mountain in Montebello Regional Preserve (Midpeninsula Open Space District) above Palo Alto, you can look east across San Jose and the rest of Silicon (the Santa Clara) Valley.
You may have to take a short hike to get to the best viewpoints from the parking area, but both parks are really nice for views. And this time of year there should be lots of wildflowers coming out to brighten your day!

If you are on for a strenuous hike, the summit of Mission Peak in Milpitas will give you a good view of the area.

it's not in milpitas. but if you drive up to the almaden quicksilver park you could see everything. or just go up to the rich evergreen neighborhood, you could see all the lights at night.
