They guy at Gamestop tried selling me a subscription and told me he couldn't sell the mag individually, so I didn't get the mag at all. I think he was full of crap because of that and because he insulted me for owning a PS3.

Those magazines are available for sale individually, as they have a SKU for each issue that is sold. He wanted to sell you a subscription for a number of reasons:

1. He has a quota to meet

2. It is cheaper to buy a subscription

3. You get a discount card for signing up for the magazine

Honestly, you can buy that same magazine at Barnes & Noble, Borders, or your local newsstand. I would have asked to speak to the store manager in your case.

pretty sure they do. The guy was probably out of line as a clerk insulting you for anything, much less for owning a PS3. More likely, he's a nintendo or xbox fanboy. In either case, he was just trying to boost retail numbers by selling a subscription, and you made it backfire.
