Yes, there is mercury in Tuna. It's in every piece of literature about food for pregnancy that you will read. The RN is wrong. I was only allowed to eat Tuna once a week when I was PG. Google 'tuna and pregnancy' - you'll find a ton of stuff. Why risk it - just have canned chicken. Be careful and good luck.

I'm not sure what RN you talked to, but the latest facts I've read still say pregnant women and small children should have no more than 2 cans/week due to mercury levels.
Unless you can find a tuna processor who - reliably and credibly - test for mercury levels in their tuna. I doubt this exists.

some human beings say definite, yet I went to a holisitc ob/gyn and they stated no tuna at the same time as pregnant or breast feeding. Mercury may reason all kinds of mind progression themes - psychological retardation, etc. So i do not imagine its properly worth even attempting it. no longer only tuna, yet different large fish as well. Shrimp are ok, and clams small fish. Tuna isn't so large that its properly worth messing up your newborn for existence. i understand a woman that ate tuna reliable for the time of two pregnancies, and now her little ones are mentally retarded and especially practise. i ask your self at cases if the mercury contributed, yet there is not any thanks to inform now.

OMG, first off, why do people leave the health of their unborn children to what strangers on the internet. Some people are just not right in the head... so if everyone one here told you it was fine and then it wasn't and your baby ended up getting hurt... who would you blame?
Tuna is fine... they have done so much in the last 3 years since the epedemic first started to prevent extreme poisoning. They still contain trace amounts and those amounts would be extracted before the nutrients reach your baby. In fact, most Dr's these days encourage the consumption of seafood because of the Omega-3 Fatty Acid.. it helps with brain developement.
Instead of asking people on here ask your Doctor, they do know these things. And if you don't believe him, find a new one.

Mercury is found in ocean fish, and you can eat tuna. Everything in moderation. I love tuna and I eat it all the time and I did before I got pregnant and during my pregnancy. I didn't eat as much while I was pregnant though.

Not as simple as the Mercury is found in Tuna. Tuna is considered safe and Mercury levels have dropped in most cases.
I have never heard anything about Tuna endangering a baby in the womb.

Why risk it? Are you really going to miss having tuna in your diet for the duration of the pregnancy (just in case!)? I would stay away from anything that could be remotely harmful to a baby, like pain releivers, cold medication, alcohol, and yes, even fish if there's the smallest chance it could affect my child.

No, that nurse is dead wrong. Ocean fish contains methylmercury, and river fish probably contains every toxin known to man. I would avoid tuna as much as possible (maybe one small serving per month during pregnancy).

tuna is okay, but you shouldn't eat it everyday. It's supposed to have vitamins in it that are good for you. I ate it once in while when I was pregnant cuz my doc said to.
