I took Maths, Chem, Bio and Music. The first year was fine and pretty straight forward but I really struggled with A2 Maths and Chem, they were much harder and doing 4 subjects at A2 was not the greatest idea. However I came out with 2 As and 2 Bs. I would recommend a different type of subject as the 4th as it gives you a better breadth of knowledge. However if you're interested in science and not sure which one is best to carry on then go for it but it will be hard work. It will only take up all your free time if you let it. If you have good time management skills and and are academic then you should be fine.

This is a basic first semester for a science major, so it has been done before. A level chemistry is not that hard, typically it involves 3 hours lecture and 2 hours lab. The lab portion typically doesn't involve much homework except maybe some reading to prepare for the weeks experiment. The math portion is usually 5 hours and can be very time consuming. As with any math course you absolutely have to do the homework to become confortable with solving the problems. Biology should be similar to chemistry, comprising lecture and lab components. I would expect to have to dedicate a minimum of 2 hours of homework to every hour you spend in class, not counting extra preparation for exams.

When I took these subjects in the Dark Ages of GCE's I found the best way to study was little and often. Carry with you very small packs of mini cards with all your formula's and laws written in microscopic script. Perhaps Physics light on one card and heat on another. This is a great way to constantly remind yourself of the essentials for the exams.
Seriously, the more time you spend on A levels now, the more time you enjoy yourself on the golf course, or in the BMW in 10 years time! There is never enough time to spare, so consider free time as more time to shine up those grades. Believe me, it's worth it!
Good Luck!!

They are very hard it is too much to do. I got a U in chemistry its just too hard. This year I am doing subjects RS, Psychology, Critical thinking and Philosophy and so far I have gotten A's for them. Choose easier subjects mate, ask universities what subjects you need to get in before even starting college!

i'm taking those subjects too! i'm also taking Music as a bit of something different :) my sister is currently studying for her A2s, and some of her friends have taken these subjects...she says they are pretty time consuming, and pretty difficult...but if you think they'll help, and if you're sure, follow your own path - i am :)
