Use a higher SPF. They really do prevent tanning and burning. SPF 40 or 50 will keep you white! I find sprays easier to work with than lotion to get on your skin evenly.

I personally feel that if they have so many chemicals in them that they can keep the "Almight Powerful Sun" from so much as leaving one single tan, mark.........then my gosh what kind's of chemicals are us parent's putting on our children's skin?!!!! This is so Scary, to me!!! I feel in life if eveything is in "Moderation" even getting sun, it will bless you, not harm you!!! The sun has vitamin's C & D, in it, and if you look at all the people in these other countries who dont even know what a sun screen is, and their fine, and good and healthy!!! Then that's got to say something for how "Healthy" the sun is for you!! It's a "fix-it" society, we live in today!! And so many people live in "Fear" of everything, so they run out and get everything that is considered anything to help you from this or that, you know... Its like they believe everything they see, on tv,, or in newspapers, or magazines.. so much that they dont look at the other side of things.. I say get some sun, and throw away that sunscreen, all full of chemicals, you know... Those chemicals are probably worse than your longest time in the sun!! I'm sorry I always seem to get into "Trouble" when I preach about the "Politics" in America!! For all I know they'll do everything they can to take away my prize again, when I reach my next level.. Its all a conspiracy!!! I''m simply just trying to help!! But, I get into trouble with Yahoo, when I do, so I'm going to shut-up now.....You have a "Wonderful Day, now!!" Smile!!!

Of course it helps. But you do have to reapply after a couple of hours if your out ALL day. I have spent days on the beach with no sunscreen and was FRIED, then I spent days on the bach, ALL day with no hat or anything, just my bathing suit and wore sunscreen and didnt get a bit of burn. But I did tan however.

Sunscreens help but only till some extent.
They are very effective in the beginning, and as soon as you sweat, they start losing their effect.
