When welbutrin was first put out on the market it was as a stop smoking aid, then they noticed that it also helped with depression so they started selling it as that. I am taking welbutrin and i am smoking and i have noticed that it makes the cigs taste even worse then normal. Also i have noticed that welbutrin has helped up my metabolism. It is one of the only antidepressants that do not make you gain weight or have cravings. I don't know about Prozac though i have never been on that or been around anybody that has been. Good luck =)

Wellbutrin is an anti-depressant and has the same chemical make up as a popular drug used to quit smoking, Zyban. They are the EXACT same drug. The are only given different names to sell in different markets. There's NOTHING wrong with your doctor giving you Wellbutrin to quit smoking. Ultimatley, they both release seratonin which is the chemical in your body that is released when you expirience euphoria. It's an uplifting sensation, which helps with depression, quiting smoking, and an added benefit, helps lose weight! It prevents someone who's quitting smoking from overeating.
I don't know if Prozac has the same effects as Zyban and Wellbutrin, but it makes sense that it would since it, too, is for depression.

DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE! My husband also took the wellbutrin to quit smoking (didn't work) and then they put him on Prozac. The prozac did nothing but make him sleep the whole time that he was home from work and he gained weight close to 40 lbs!!! When he was taking it, he didn't even realize that there was a problem but I suggested that he try to quit taking them and see how he feels so he did and he's been much better off! He is no longer sleeping his life away and he's dropped that 40 lbs and is back to his normal weight. Please don't take this.... you WILL regret it! It also had negative affects on my sister. Both my sister and husband were both always real lean and fit and after taking those meds. for a few months they both blew up! And as soon as they quit taking the meds. they dropped down to normal size.

I have heard that Wellbutrin is prescribed for people to assist them with smoking. I do know that it is also an anti-depressant, as well as prozac, and they will make you gain weight if anything, not lose weight!

uh. What? Tell me that's not the only reason he prescribed it. Heavy psychotropic drugs for SMOKING CRAVINGS?? Get a new doctor ASAP.
