When I was in junior high, I lied to an acquaintance about my ability to do a couple things, namely skateboard and play drums (lame, I know, but I did it to fit in). I was 13 at the time, and the things I said caught up with me and ruined my friendship with him and one other girl. I am in my 20s now and I have not lied about my life since (I learned my lesson...I did a stupid thing). A current friend who I am close with is friends with the girl from junior high. I don't know if she has forgotten about it or not, but I fear that she will tell him and it will ruin my friendship with him. I am not the person I was back then and I have never lied to him. Should I come clean with him and tell him of this past event before she does, or should I stop sweating it and let it go?

Definitely fess up. And who in junior high or high school didn't say something that wasn't totally true to try to fit in? You could just say something like "I remember when I was trying to impress (so and so -the guy, and so and so -the girl) and told them I could do this and this. Boy was I dumb!, and I can't even do those things either! What a joke!" Make light of it and they will probably laugh with you. After all we are all human and even though we try really hard to ALWAYS do the right thing it just doesn't happen EVERY time. Good luck and God Bless.

I don't see how such a small fib in middle school can follow you throughout your life honey. I would hope that your new friend is mature enough to realize that WE ALL LIED in middleschool!! lol ... whether it be to a girl or boy for flirting reasons or a teacher about our homework being eaten by the dog ... it happens. I say let it go ... unless you want to bring it up in a nonchalant way ... like in a story or something ... hopefully it hasn't ruined your life ... and if it has ... move ... im going to. lol good luck.

Come clean with it. I know it seems like a big deal to you... but it was a long time ago and should not be a big deal to your high school friends NOR your current friend. Clear your conscience and talk individually with the girl (if possible) and then your current friend. Good luck!

So tell her the truth. She may be logical about it and put it in the past.
