Most likely you blew out a component of the computer.

When you have a storm like that, you need to make sure you have both your power cable and modem cable run through a surge protector to prevent this type of thing.

Now, to get to the problem.

First things first, 90% of the problems like this with E-machines is usually due to the Modem or Power supply.

People often forget to surge protect their modem lines. IF you had your dial-up modem attached to a cable, try removing the actual modem from the machine and see if it will power on without it.

If not, then it is most likely the power supply. Take the computer in to a local repair shop and ask them if they can test the power supply for you.

If they tell you they have to charge you, tell them to forget about it. Any good tech shop will have a power supply tester and it only takes a few seconds. If they are smart, they will know that you will probably be buying the replacement supply from them and will not charge you to test it.

If the power supply is still good, you will want to leave the computer there for service. But I can tell you that depending on the age of the Emachine, it may not be worth fixing.

Ouch!. You should never leave your computer on during a storm, or any other electronic piece of equipment. A power surge or fluctuation can cause damage. Always have your equipment connected to a Good surge protector. Try switching outlets, and check your connection. Re boot the computer. If this doesn't have any effect, then unfortunately, I suggest taking it to a qualified computer technician.

It's possible a power surge fried something. Check where your power cord connects to your PC, in most cases they are removable, check to make sure it is not loose. Also try plugging your computer into another outlet, if it's plugged into a surge protector make sure it wasn't tripped, you may also want to check your electrical panel and make sure no circuit breakers were tripped as well

Make sure the receptacle that the tower is plugged into works for starts. You might also try unplugging the tower power cord and waiting a few minutes. Plug it back in and reboot.

some machines have reset switches directly on the motherboard that require a button to be pushed after it has been "tripped"

if this is not the case, then your power supply needs to be replaced.

you might have blown something in the comp. or a fuse or something, no offense to you but e machines aren't that great of computers! so something could have broken.
