Are you from the US? I kind of find the term mentally retarded really offensive.
He maybe gay, feel intimidated by the whole dating thing, or may not have matured to this level yet.
Why don't you be a friend. If you know a girl who is sympathetic why not the three of you go out - in this way he can build up his friendships which will give him some social skills.
You sound caring which is great. Be a friend - he has the same feelings as you.

just leave him alone and be a friend. in the end he can't be like everyone else. We are all very vain creatures. So there are not as many people how would be in to someone like that. I used to work with a guy that was like that. He was 25 and had never had a date. He met thick lady who was really sweet and pretty nice to look at . By the time he was 27 he was married to her with 2 kids. So maybe your friend is lucky to not have to deal all the crap we have to deal with in relatinships and someday the right girl will come along.

You are a Good person for calling this person YOUR FRIEND,you are sticking by him no matter what, your friend is uncomfortable with himself, his aware of his problem and thinks no one would want him, he probably does like girls but always reverts back to his problem getting in the way. let him be, as long as he is happy without a girlfriend. if he is 'different', it wont do him any good if the people hes close to wont just accept it, and keep on trying to make him more 'normal'. if he is unhappy, and wants to have a girlfriend or whatever, then why not introduce him 2 ur girlfriends and female friends, if he is 'minorly retarded' he probably wont notice theyre only flirting with him in a friendly way (out of pity), but he can establish friendships with them, and this will make him feel closer to girls.

Well you can't really change him and if he is happy with his life why would you try to force the issue? Does he live alone or with family? Does he attend school? All of these issues may have a large impact on what he does in his off hours. If he is content reading, or watching TV or working on the computer then that's his life not yours.

just think about how you were when you were 6 or 7 and didn't like girls and thought they had cooties.. those with mental handicap and usually slower to develop and are immature. You should be supportive and stop trying to change him

Hes not retarded. Hes the smartest man alive.. He can fart whenever he wants to , he doesnt have to hand over his check everyweek, he could drink whenever he wants to. He doesnt have to go to the store to buy her tampons, no monthly visitors. Leave him alone its his decision. How'd you like it if he was gay and pressured you to hook-up with one of his gay friends?
