Also if they are good programmers why have they not written a book on the topic?

Honestly, neither are programmers any more. Steve Jobs never programmed, he is the person behind the ideas, or he used to be. Steve has charisma and the new business man character, where as Bill gates was a programmer, and is more of the old style business man.

A lot of good programmers haven't written books on programming, they may be great programmers who don't know how to phrase things. My math teacher is great at Math, but can't teach it.

So, Bill Gates probably wins.

hope I helped,
Sophie

P.S. For the person above, Steve Jobs is head of Apple

you misunderstand the point they perform at -- that is a lot larger than you imagine. both Gates and Jobs pushed out into incredibly unknown area of technologies and both had an huge heritage interior the realm in the previous they began. huge potential over 10,000 hours extreme prepare or artwork with important comments. [10,000 hours = 5 years of work and the comments must be of the corrective form, no longer "atta boy"] the purely way all of us can do this manner of educating [10,000 hours] is to discover some thing they surely love and concentrate on doing that [and extremely almost purely that] like a madman. you may like it or you received't do the artwork -- and the guy who does receives the prospect. once you get your foot interior the door, you also could be really fortunate -- human beings could like your product. see Malcolm Gladwell's e book "Outliers", about web page 40+, for archives. oh

Steve Jobs isn't a programmer - he's an 'ideas' man, so Bill wins that fight by default.
