I think usually women are called high maintenance because they enjoy nice things and appreciate their femininity. That's offensive to women who don't bother to take the time, or men who feel like this kind of woman is someone they have to put effort into deserving, which is where the derogatory term "high maintenance" comes from. Kinda funny how the same men who don't like "high maintenance women" can be fascinated with heavily made up and finely dressed women in magazines or on television.

I do not consider myself high maintenance. I like what I like, and if I don't have to settle for less then I won't. Call it what you will.
