I have been running on the treadmill at the gym for the last few days....do you think that is why it hurts and pops when I walk? Is it serious? What can I do to alieve the pain?

its just a strain.
no swelling, no bruising, no serious limping its a strain. rest it. elevate it. heat it. ice it. you might want to consider wearing a brace while running if you think that is what caused it. it is not serious. also take pain medicine. dont run for about a week. take good care of it and you will be good. the popping is normal. both my ankles pop when i walk. its just the bone stucture.

you may have strained/sprained your ankle due to improper positioning while running.

and yes, it can be serious if you have damaged your tendons and /or ligaments in the process.

generally speaking, if you are not allergic to over the counter pain relievers, something like Advil or Aleve give the longest lasting relief.

also alternating hot and cold packs while elevating the affected limb will help.

if you do not have improvement in the joint pain, PLEASE seek professional assistance from your doctor and seek a prescription for pain and possible orthotic support for your activities.

hope that helps.
