Teenaged boys seem to run off rocket fuel; teenaged girls seem to thrive off cruelty. All you can do is try your best to ignore them. Laugh it off whenever possible and don't let them see you sweat. Secretly, they probably envy you for being an individual, but they won't admit it; it's a "pack" mentality! If it's any consolation, my own daughter went through a similar period in 8th & 9th grade. She really was beautiful, but like you, she just didn't feel she "fit in." She was more artistic than atletic and much more original than most of her classmates. Wasn't always easy, but just a few years later, guess who was Homecoming Queen!! Yep! She won by popular vote, too, not for how she dressed, but for how she treated others, with kindness and respect. That made me proud, not the title. That knock out smile still looks good on her, girl. Wear yours well, and don't let their opinions matter. [I'd still wear Roxy if I wouldn't look like an old fool! I love those styles! ha ha ]

If they are ghetto then they'll probably be pregnant or on parole before they are out of school and you'll be on your way to college earning your degree, looking foxy in your Roxy.

You are trying to do your best to rise above the ghetto stereotype that the other black girls you mentioned seem to want to embrace (and perpetuate).
Let them make fun of you all they want. As you say you are trying to be you - that is what matters.
[I'll bet you go further than they do in life]

Shantel,
You know why you don't fit in. You said them yourself. But let's say you did what you needed to to fit in. You wear the FUBU, Baby Phat. You speak in Ebonics, you do your hair the 'right' way...etc. etc. (I know, all stereotypes...but still) In your heart, you will not be happy because you would NOT like yourself because you are not being true to who you really are. So you got to have your chin up and wear your fashions proudly. Besides, all the hate stems from envy.

school has always been cliquish and the kids break themselves up in groups made by superficial things.
Don't worry about fitting in with those girls, all you need to do is find like minded people at your school.

Well then dont, you dont have to change for other people to like you, if they dont like what you stand for, then you dont need them. and especially if its something so stupid as clothes, it shouldnt matter what you wear. just love yourself and wear what you want. if someone teases you, then you obviously dont need them in your life! dont bother trying to fix anything, just be yourself. dont worry about them!!
