I've been eating soup (well trying anyways), mashed potatoes are even hard for me to to eat, i can do jello, and i know i can't eat yogurt cause its dairy, so i'm pretty hungry.. I always brush my teeth and rinse with listerine after, eating ice when i can (i have to make it, with bottled water of course), i took Ibuprofen last night and today, but the hardest thing seems to be talking and avoiding hitting my teeth, but my friend told me it just takes getting used to and i'll stop hitting my teeth in like a week or so..

Yes the swelling is normal. When i got mine done it was swollen for about a week. the plastic is good, but the key to it not hitting your teeth is to get the smallest bar possible that will fit without it feeling to tight in your mouth. Wait until the swelling goes completely down ( because you need a larger bar right now to give it room for swelling ) When the swelling is gone go back to where you got it and tell them you want a smaller bar. and they should also be able to supply you with the ceramic or plastic balls also. Mine is all metal ive never had a problem in 10 years. Like i said the key is the bar so it doesn't touch your teeth. And make sure you are keeping it clean right now and rinsing with Listerine after meals etc.. you dont want an Infection! Good luck

Swelling is normal on the first day. Do the Hydrogen Peroxide mouth rinse to avoid infection.

plastic is good, but i would suggest that you get a metal bar. the plastic ones bend and hurt. leave in the one they gave you until the swelling goes down. mine was swollen and hurt bad for more than a week. i'd say that if you start seeing pus and it's hot you need to see the dr for antibiotics, but other than that you're probably fine.

plastic won't break your teeth, but I've had mine pierced for over three years, and the metal hasn't yet done any damage. the swelling will go away. Eat Popsicles if it helps.
