then you need to relay that to the doctor, tell her to let you worry about the costs and she worry about taking the neccesary measures to get you tested and treated if need be. I strongly suggest you seek out another doctor, to me the one you have seems a little careless and irresponsible to say the least. I have never heard a doctor tell a patient not to get tested, unless they knew for certain the test was not neccesary; furthermore, how can she tell you it's not neccesary when you feel it is. It is your body and health at stake here not hers; as well as your money which should not be the issue when it comes to your health. You can maybe go your local Dept. Health & Human Services or Social Services office, they may be able to help you, if not with insurance at least to facilties that offer free services or reduced prices. Most all agencies want people to know there status, so as not to be infecting other people, so do what you have to do for you. Wherever you wind up let them know you want the full STD testing, name the tests; HIV, chlymydia, herpes, syphilis, gonorrhea, everything. All they need is a few vials of blood and some urine. Ask about payment plans, most importantly tell that doctor if she doesn't test you, that you will be reporting her to Dept. Health & Human Services, it is her duty and job to test and help patients get well, and it is your right to be seen and not be refused any treatment, that you feel is needed to gauge your health status, it's better to know. All the best.

I would get a new doctor, its wrong that he/she told you about how expensive the tests are instead of asking you why you feel you need the tests--without being judgemental. If you are not in a position to change doctor ask to speak to their supervisor --even doctors have someone to report to-- it they give you attitude again.

go to a health department or planned parenthood. no dr. should ever refuse a test like that.
