I think you're describing chickweed. It's all over the place this time of year. It's low growing and has TONS of little purple flowers. sound like that?

Large purple flowers could be Morning Glory, more of a vine than a ground weed tho...

I'm pretty sure it's called sweet clover. I have them all over my yard too.

When i was little, we used to pull out the "petals" and suck the sweet honey like stuff out of the end of it... if the bees didn't get to it first.
