Actually, us liberals seem to be the only ones aware that our republic is taking on fascist characteristics...it's called being a Patriot.

EDIT: Jim's link is great and spells it out perfectly, good job Jim! :o)

Its all bullsh*t, man. Heres the thing you have to realize, there are no democrats or republicans, nor conservatives nor liberals. There is only US V.S. THEM.(The government) F*** everything else. All politicians are the same. They care about nothing except for money. It doesnt matter if you're talking about Dubya, Barack Obama, John Kerry, John McCain or whoever. They don't care about you. The only thing that any of them care about is staying at the top of the food chain. Stop believing everything you hear on the news. Stop listening to the idiot "Bush-Bots" who whole heartedly want to believe that George Dubya is a freedom fighting cowboy, who's out to save all of our souls. Stop listening to the pretentious liberal yuppies who want you to believe that communism is the only way to fix everything. THEY ARE ALL WRONG. There are no sides. Heres how it works, its literally this simple. The people in the government want to stay rich and in power, and nothing more. They don't care about you. They will rape your mother before they go down. Its all bullsh*t. Its time to wake up, chief.

I don't know... probably the same reason that conservatives don't know the difference between a dicatorship and communism?

those are also two separate terms...

now, you are aware that a republic can turn into a facist state quickly... right? (like Rome for example)

Ask them. Very few of them know the definition of the term, and I would wager that most would be unable to spell "fascism".

The definition of Fascism as defined by Merriam-Webster's website is as follows: (a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition).

The last 5 words, "forcible suppression of oppopsition" disproves the association of the term with President Bush, whose opposition has had a field day criticizing him and distorting his words and policies with no suppression of their criticisms whatsoever, much less forcible suppression (like what occurs in Russia everytime Putin orders a hit on another journalist).

The simple answer is ignorance. The very definition of "fascism" does not allow for the term's use in describing a republic.

For the record, according to Merriam-Webster: a Republic is: "A government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and governing according to law (2) : a political unit (as a nation) having such a form of government."

Liberals tend not to be very well educated, as evidenced by your fine example.

I'm going to use a line from the Usual Suspect, "The best trick the devil ever pulled is to make people think it doesn't exist." I believe that was Hitler's best trick too.

Socrates--------There is no way there are this many blind eyes in America--I really do believe there are quite a few bad people who spew all kinds of hate and filth just to see how many of us they can get angry;.....I still believe most Americans are good people----we just need to get them involved-------been too complacent for far too long---------I hope they can pull their heads out of the sand before a major catastrophe.

I didn't know the ruling of a nation by edict could be called a republic. That is what Bush has been trying. That is what you are misunderstanding.
