You need not feel bad for them, most disadvantaged people I know do not want sympathy or anyone feeling sorry for them, just accept them as they are. Have you seen dancing with the stars this week? Lance Armstrong, these are both people with handicaps, or special needs, that did not handicap them. They are special and so are you for caring. We need more people like you.

I think we all, on some level, feel bad for people that can't do the things we can, or have trouble doing things that day-to-day we take for granted. However, you shouldn't feel "sorry" for these people, because most of them are thankful for what they DO have and for what they CAN do. Just be positive around these people and realize that underneath it all, they're exactly like us.

i think that they dont need someone to feel bad for them. i spend 1 1/2 hours a day at school as their tutor and they are happier than we are! we have to live in constant judgement of other people and we live our lives in constant wonder if that person likes me or not and they do not care because they live in their own world. there isnt anything to feel bad for. they are happy so there is not reason to feel bad for them. your not a bad person, you just didnt know, but either way you still have to treat them with respect. =]]]]

Why would that be a bad thing? On the contrary I think it's admirable.
