I lived in France for 6 months and Germany for 6 months. I've visited England, France, Italy, Poland, Czech republic, Luxembourg, Russia, Haiti, and Jamaica. Also Mexico and Canada.
I could not possibly do justice to these various cultures in this short space, but I'll say a few things. In England, when an American speaks everybody turns around to hear your accent. In France, they're really not rude, they just have a different definition of personal space - they pay less attention to intruding on physical space, but will give you plenty of mental space, as in, they generally don't chat with strangers. They also want to help you speak their language. In Germany, every third person speaks perfect English and they like to chat.
I did have a problem with European guys always trying to get me into bed, which I didn't appreciate. I guess it's less common to be merely friends with members of the opposite sex.
I highly recommend travelling, you get to see many historic things and gain a great perspective on your own culture and history.

I have been to the Dominican Republic. The children in an orphanage that I went to had never seen a white person...they played with my hair for hours. The peopel there assumed that all americans are rich. It was beautiful and a great experience.

I went to canada once,
my dad had a 4 inch knife he forgot about and they said it was a double edged sward, so We didn't stay.
But i've been to MExico a few times. It's really pretty there.
The resturaunts are the hardest thing to get used to for americans,
In mexico the server doesn;'t approach you untill YOU call for them,
Most americans don't know that, so they will leave a returaunt thinking the service is rude, which they are not, just differant culture.
the people in mexico were really patient with the language barriors,
that was really nice to see.

I've been to Costa Rica, and I wasn't treated differently because I was American, other than some of the people assumed I had more money than I did. It helped that I speak Spanish though. They seemed to appreciate that.

I've been to Mexico, Canada, Ireland & Scotland. My very favorite was Scotland & Ireland. The people are so friendly, and we had the most amazing time. I actually fell in love with Scotland so much so that I'm moving there for a while later this year!
