I don't think women consciously think about it that way - at least I don't.
It might be subconscious though. I don't know.

I can't speak for other women but for me personally, my husband is a very attractive man with a very masculine, defined face.
I think if a woman is secure with her husband it really doesn't matter.
That's the problem with scientific studies...there is no emotion to make it realistic.

I don't think they should be considered more attractive. But I do believe the more manly a man looks aids him a bit.
That's why they are called alpha males.
Call it primal behavior. The more dominant lion runs the pack and has his pick of the females. Women are drawn to the dominant ones.

Just like in nature, women unconciuously go for men that look strong to protect the "nest". So is primal instinct for reproductive puposes.
Men are uncousciously atracted to women that look healthy and curvy, because their instict seeks partners than can produce healthy off-springs.
This has been scientifically proven.

I have an 'ideal man' ... he's over six feet tall, with lots of dark hair, has little 'body hair', and he's 'thin' but well built. I am married to THE BEST MAN IN THE WORLD ... he's 5'10" tall, bald on top, fuzzy as a bear everywhere else, and he's FAT (not grossly fat, but he has a big tummy) ... and I fell in love with him because he's 'gentle, kind, generous' and he loves ME, only ME, for the rest of our lives and beyond. He's still not 'my ideal man' ... but to me he's the 'best looking' man in the world, as well as 'just the BEST.' I think that most women if they are 'true to themselves' would pick the 'best man' for them, and not the best LOOKING man.'

What does being attractive have to do with being a good father/husband?

I read that article too. I think when you treat women right, it will not mater to a woman that will treat you right. It's called substance over style.

Sounds about right. I personally would not want to be married to a conventionally attractive man.

WE WOMEN DONT PIC OUR MEN OUT OF A BOOK. YOU HAVE TO ADMIT ITS COINCIDENCE WHO WE RUN INTO AND STRIKE UP A CONVERSATION AND WHO WE ARE ATTRACTED TO. FEW WOMEN CHOOSE BY LOOKS, I CHOOSE MORE BY PERSONALITY. I WILL TELL YOU , HAVING SAID THAT, I SAW MY MANS PIC ON MYSPACE AND HE HAS VERY MANLY FEATURES AND THAT IS WHAT PROMPTED MY EMAIL. SO, GO FIGURE!!
