Though this doesn't apply to all, the family unit seems to breaking down. My reason for saying this is because everyone seems to be too self-absorbed in their own interests. People are not taking time to enjoy each others company. I am an older person, and I have seen a lot of change within my own family. No one has time to visit . This is especially true with older family members. They are often neglected and treated as unworthy of being involved.

I definitely think the family is breaking down and these new social conditions are simply adding to it. I think kids are involved in too much too early. Parents act like it's gonna contribute to their getting into college or finding jobs, but colleges don't care about what you did before you were 14.

I'd have to say it's a bit of both. Some families are breaking down due to divorce and other issues and some are just as strong as ever albeit fitting different definitions of family. In any case, it's sad that so many people are worried about "gay marriage" and talk of "traditional marriage" or "traditional families" when they themselves are divorced and/or remarried.
