From what I can tell I'm the oldest person answering his question for you. First off school is what you make of it. Yes they are for profit and does everyone know what for profit means, it means they are not federally or state funded. Yes they accept everyone because they want to give people the opportunity to get a higher education, the other schools are just snobbs and have to keep there rates higher in order to maintain federal funding, so who loses out, the students who might of attended the state school but now can't get accepted. As far as employers, I work for a fortune 500 company and a majority of the managers i have been under don't even have degrees because they have worked hard and busted there rear ends off to get were they are. All a degree does is start you higher up in the food chain and mean that you are committed to something and can accompish what you put your mind to, it shows dedication. I attend UoP and my manager's, manager's, manager's, manager's boss has told me that once I get my degree I would be eligable to seek any position in the company that required a BS or BA. Mainly because they don't care if you went to a Ivy league or a CC, they just want to see if you are dedicated. I went to a traditional Univeristy, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University which happens to be the best school in its field, I also have a 140 IQ which is genius level and there is things I learn at school everyday. So be proud of learning something, show the dedication and don't second guess yourself. The are not a diploma mill because if that was the case I could cashed out my 401K and handed them $60 large for my degree, instead just like any other school I have to earn it just like you. AS far as the Wikipedia reference above, wikipedia is worthless and any good professor will tell you that and if you put it an academic paper, you would be laaughed out of school and you profession. Wikipedia is an unedited, unsupported bunch of talk that anybody can put comments into. Heck, i could say some really nasty things about Harvard and it would always be in there about the school. Take what you hear with a grain of salt. The old saying believe only half of what you see and nothing of what you hear.

You should not feel ashamed for getting an online degree. This day and age it is widely acceptable to have an online degree from a credible university.

If you feel challenged with your course load stick with it, you'll help yourself in the long run. If you are starting to feel bored with the classes, look into Townson or Bowie State, like you mentioned. You might even be able to take a class at either place that doesn't focus on what your getting your degree in.

Don't let other people tell you that your not smart or your degree doesn't count because it wasn't from a brick and mortar place. As long as you have applied yourself and you feel you are benefiting then UoP was for you.

Be proud of the fact that you were dedicated enough to go back and get your GED and then move on to higher learning. Good for you :-)

don't listen to people who say that an online degree is worthless, they don't know what they are talking about. UOP is a great school and the classes (even if they are only 5 weeks long) are just as hard as those at a ground campus! i currently am a student at Axia of UOP getting my associates degree and i would not go anywhere else to finish my degree! congrats on getting as far as you have and good luck with your graduation.

I attend UOP on line and I think that you should be more than proud of yourself. Traditional college settings are not for everyone. Like me for example, I am a single mother to a 3 year old, and I have a full time job. I have been working on my degree for 2 years, and I am finally graduating in 3 months! You need to do what is right for you. UOP IS nationally accredited despite what others may say. It's a good education, and as I mentioned before it's your choice. If you are getting everyhting you need/want out of your college experience than so be it. Hope this helps.

I would be interested to see how far along you are in the program. You can find me at :

Good luck!

It is good that you are learning. However, U of P has a bad reputation. It is a For Profit corporation that accepts anyone. Because of that, many employers will not take it seriously.

In addition, they were recently fined a record $9.8MM for sleazy recruiting practices and are currently under investigation for padding their placement numbers.

While they are regionally accredited, they lack the more prestigious national accreditation.

U of P is cheaper than the elite private universities -- but more expensive than most public universities. Transferring to a public university will increase your ability to get a job and cost you less. And you will learn there, too.

some employers won't even consider people who have a degree from there.
