Theres no need to tell the cashier anything not really her business...but if your at a place that gift wraps things all you have to say is that you need the panties gift wrapped and they will do it for you

You don't have to explain anything. It is your business. However, if it still bothers you, you could ask for assistance explaining that you are buying a gift or on an errand for a friend. Even if it is "I am not accustomed to shopping in the woman's departments (or a lingerie shop)and I need to buy a gift for my friend. Could you tell me where the I can find her size? Or...where the lingerie dept. is?". OR as you are checking out, casually comment "I hope she'll like these". At any rate, I'm sure you'll be fine.

The cashier doesn't care who you're giving them to.
Do what you want - I think giving panties to a friend is a bit odd, but whatever.

Your friend must be pretty close for you to be doing that - but when you go to the cashier, he/she does not need to know you're buying them for a friend, neither should they care. Men buy stuff for their spouses, girlfriends, etc all the time. Don't worry about it.

Yes it will show that you have the balls enough to do it. It made me feel so loved when my husband bought me tampons because I never thought he would actually do it and he did.
