Paris Hilton is famous...Survivor continues to use up airtime that could be diverted to filming paint dry...Music is formulaic and predicatble...Why do people consume all this garbage?

devolving... nice terminology. Best thing I could say about this is that people are always going to follow the National Norm, which is typically set by famous people and the media's take on it. I can agree, that I wish it wasn't that way, but it just so happens it is the way the U.S. has always been and will continue to be for what appears to be forever.

You might as well ask why romance novels sell so well when they're so poorly written, or why I can't pass by a NEWS OF THE WORLD without checking up on the whereabouts of Batboy. It's entertainment.

Why does some of it continue even though it's already jumped the shark? That you can blame on advertisers. It did well it's first three years and even though ratings are down it's still high in the demographic they're trying to reach.

And honestly, even though something is old and tired and formulaic it is nice to revisit briefly from time to time. I mean who hasn't enjoyed tuning into TVLand to catch Ward giving the Beaver a stern dressing down. (Makes me want to drink a glass of milk and eat a DingDong.)

The key is not to let it upset you. Turn it off. And do something else.
