I am an MRI Tech, and this is the real storey. First I would assume that they are going to scan his brain, looking for swollen optics nerves, Intercranial Hypertention, Mass or Lesions of MS. It really depends on the the type of machine that they have but, Yes you do change, and you do lay down on a table. A "cage" or "grid" is snapped or pulled down over the head, this is required to image it. We do give you a ball to squeeze, it is the panic ball. At anytime during the scan if he wants to stop, come out, or there is a problem, he can squeeze it and the scan will be stopped. We do give you ear plugs, becasue It sounds like a cross bewtween a giant jack hammer and a jet engine swirling around you. The pt is then slid into the scanner with the head being in the center of the "tube". They will take several images. We take a minimum of 8 series of pictures. They can last anywhere from 40 seconds to 10 minutes. A contrast agent is usually injected at some point, its usually call Omniscan or gadolinium, but there are other type on the market. This is clear and odorless and excreted in the unrine. This is used to highlight the structures of the brain. Contrast use is usually determined by the Radiologist. There is a speaker and a microphone in the scanner so the patient and the tech are able to communicate at all times. The most important thing (and I can't stress it enough) is to tell him to hold very very still. All the pictures are set up from the very first set that we take, so if he were to move, the slices (or pictures) wouldn't line up with what we needed scanned and we would have to start over. There is absolutely no pain involved. If he is Clausto, or thinks he might be, I highly suggest that he request his eyes to becovered with a cloth or something before even going into the scanner. On the MRI they will be able to see everything, different type of brain matter, bone, vessels, fluid, masses, everything. This is really the best scan to get.

It stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It's a stronger version of an x-ray. Completely painless. It's a good thing that he's having one. They will be able to have a much clearer image of what is wrong.

You have to wear a gown and lie on a table and you are sent into the chamber. You sometimes wear earplugs because it can be a little loud. There is a camera in there and also a microphone so that they can monitor you.

It can be a little claustrophobic. So I do recomend that he closes his eyes and keep very very still. The more he moves the longer it will take.

He'll be fine.

Hope this helps.

you wear a gown and then you are put on a table that moves you then are put int o the machine and they tell you to lay very still and don't move they give you a button that if you need anything you push it. they will give you ear plugs because it gets loud to some people they will tell you when they are going to start a series and then they will do it you series will last between 2-5 minutes. they will probably do a couple. then they let you out and you can go home. unless they are going to read the results right away. as long as he is not claustrophobic he should be all set. if he is you should find out if he can get one that is open.

Hope this Helps

The MRI will provide detailed information regarding the structure of the eye including some important information regarding the shape of the ocular fluid. If your brother has hypertension, the concern is present for a stroke. In that case, I would suspect that he is being treated for his high blood pressure.
