Start where it is warmest; near the furnace, water heater, heat vents, under the stove or refridgerater. Since hamsters are actually desert animals, try someplace they may have access to sand/soil like flower beds, potted plants, and yes, even the cats litterbox. Otherwise, thoroughly search the furniture.

I would say that you really should be looking for the hamster at night. Hamsters are nocturnal, and are extremely active at night. So i wouldn't be surprised if you found it running around, looking for food. But if you wanna look for it in the day, check all small, confined places. Check shoes, under and behind dressers, in piles of items like clothes. They like to be hidden. Good luck.

I was able to recapture an escaped hamster by setting out a dish of peanut butter overnight. He was sitting there munching away the next morning.
They can get stuck in small spaces though, so be sure to search everywhere.
Borrow a Have-A-Heart trap if you can.

Growing up we had gerbals and they often got out of there cage, by accident. We noticed everytime that they did not go far from there cage. So we would come home and they would be out for a couple of hours and we would look right near there cages under the furniture and they would be there. so look near the cage.

Check under the couch...up under the cotton/white lining...they'll gnaw at it and climb up in there. Or if you have any floor heating/cooling vents...We have found hamsters in both places..
Good Luck

Check all of the small, dark places in your house, especially the lower level cupboards, heating vents, space under the refridgerator, etc.
Good luck!

Behind & under furniture, under blankets and in bedding, behind and inside of vents, behind & under appliances (refrigerator, washer, dryer, etc) and radiators, under sink, in vanity, within closets, inside of shoes, inside of cat.
