My daughter has had that rash too. Its an a child's version of a yeast infection. If you use over the counter clotrimazole cream you should be fine. The only reason they say not to use it on children under 12 is so that you are at least consulting a doctor not just taking medical matters into your own hands. I would consult the doctor about the vomitting however I feel strongly that the two are not related.

babies do get yeast infections in their diaper areas - they can also look like round-ish sores that are raw. The Dr told you to use the same product that he would have prescribed if he had written a script. This cream couldn't have caused the vomiting and his not eating - that sounds more like an illness or an infection. are the sores getting any better? you really do need to use the cream on yeast infections...
I'm a mom of 5 and have dealt with this before - it really isn't as bad as it sounds if you take care of it as soon as you suspect yeast infection not reg. diaper rash. One of my sons was very prone to this - at least 2 times a month from age 4 months - about 16 months old...
Good luck to you and your son
NOTE --
the second link is a photo of a serious case of yeast infection

Sounds like the Dr thought your son had some kind of fungus infection. That is what they use on skin conditions like ringworm as well. I would be real hesitant about using it on a baby as young as yours if there is a warning label on the cream about age restrictions. Why don't you call your Dr office and double check with them to make sure? And, let them know that your son started vomitting (which may be just a coincidence or it could be an allergic reaction) and see if they want you to continue using it. Good luck~

The best cream I found for diaper rash was Balmex It's next to the desitin @ the grocery store. If you use desitin try the Creamy. If you have doubts about your doctor. Don't hesitate to change docs. It sounds like your baby might have something going on on the inside causing the rash to begin with. Have him checked again. the cream probably didn't cause the vomiting and loss of appetite. best of luck

listen, I have used and told others about this
and it WORKS:
clean the area with just PLAIN water on a paper towel
NO diaper wipes!
then apply zinc oxide ointment(sold over the counter, ask where to find)and it is CHEAP like $ 1.50
then powder area with "ammends" medicated powder
every poop diaper change ,
requires a cleaning and new application
wet changes can be every other one
I'm a mother of three and a grandmother of 9
THIS is an oldy but GOODY
This literally clears ALL diaper rashes in 24 hrs. or less!
please let me know how it works...you can e-mail from yahoo Q&A site

Did he tell you what % of cream to use. When my son had really bad diaper rash while teething she told me to use 1/2% cortizone cream, and it started clearing up by the next morning.

When my daughter was young she had diaper rash that I couldn't get rid of. I tried everything, even creams from the doctor. Then I tried Gold Bond Medicated Baby Powder and boom! It cleared up! I am sure it won't work in every case, but it did in my daughter's! If you haven't tried it already, try it!

Well, on the Tylenol bottle it says to only take so many but doctors routinely tell patients to increase it...it's because they want you to see them before making such decisions.
The cream probably did not cause his illness, that sounds like a virus to me.
