Yeah ok, a lot of these people don't realize what your asking. Because your place of work doesn't have any wireless connection set up you need to get a Mobile Internet plan from a cellular company such as Verizon or Sprint, generally the plans go from 60 - 80 $ a month so at the moment its still very pricey luxury.

But if the price doesn't turn you off to the idea, then either go to one of the Cellular companies websites or to a local dealer, and they'll tell you exactly what you need and how much its going to cost.

If you want to use a GSM or GPRS connection, then you'll need to sign up with a cellphone provider for a data plan.

The cost of these varies wildly depending on what country you are in and how much use you want to get out of it.

For example, O2 in the UK charges as described here: http://www.o2.co.uk/mobilestariffs/tariffs/datatariffs

The hardware side of the connection is handled either by connecting a cellphone to the laptop (typically via USB or Bluetooth) (which you've said you don't want to do that), or by having a piece of hardware called a data card which is effectively a cellphone without the phone (you put a SIM card in it), and example of such can be found at http://businessshop.o2.co.uk/phone_detail.aspx?id=68&groupid=3 .

If there's no internet connection at work, then how do you think you're going to connect? Your cellphone has a connection through whatever network you get your service from. That has nothing to do with your laptop.

You would need a wireless service provider. Get out your wallet! You people need to stop misleading here! A wireless network card isnt gonna get him a connection without an access point!

well you have to find out if there software will be affected by this. You can bring the laptop to work but if you go and get your own internet access, you will have to pay for a wireless card.
