You have to have food to live; why are there no non-profit grocery stores? No law mandates you have insurance either; only if you CHOOSE TO DRIVE

America is a free market. Businesses have stockholders who invest in them to create business; they expect the business to return a profit.

HA - rates are highly regulated and the only component of insurance where there is significant flexibility is P&C, and most P&C companies were unprofitable from an operating standpoint from 9/11 through 2004.

Does this even need to be answered - BECAUSE THERE IS NO PROFIT IN A NON-PROFIT INSURANCE COMPANY - WHY WOULD THEY GO INTO IT. What are you, a communist? I have a better question for you - If auto insurance is required by law, why is there "uninsured motorist" insurance? By the way - home owners insurance is not required by law - it is required by whoever owns your mortgage contract. If you pay off your house, you don't have to have insurance.
