All we want to do is protect the country. You would think they understand that.

I think you are confusing ideology with rational thought. The two do not really go together that well, especially when they are taken to the extremes. I am a conservative and I think liberals get me just fine. They may not agree with me, but that is fair as I don't agree with them many times either. It doesn't matter to me so long as we express ourselves honestly and leave the name calling in the sandbox where it belongs. This idea that liberals are not interested in protecting the country is ludicrous. While we may not agree on what steps should be taken in this area I don't think for a minute that anyone welcomes or embraces attacks or lack of security. No matter what their political ideology might be.

I think mostly 'cause we don't want you! Just kidding. I think the real reason NEITHER gets the other is that both tend to be so intrenched in their own point of view. It leaves very little room for others. Conservatives want to protect the country...in their own way. Liberals also believe they are protecting the country. The basic disagreement is over HOW to protect the country and from who/what.

Why don't cons understand that liberals want to protect this country too, we just see that military action isn't always the best option. There are anti American attitudes being instilled into millions of Muslims. Military force doesn't change those opinions, it just reinforces them. This may sound cliche but we need to be doing more to win the hearts and minds of Muslims around the world. I'm not talking about the terrorists themselves. I'm talking about the people who support the terrorists. Lets make sure they know the other side of the story, our side of the story.

Real conservatives might be interested in protecting the country, but there are a great many people who claim to be conservative who seem more interested in outspending liberals, celebrating homophobia and proclaiming that they are doing God's work. That's not conservative, that's radical. I believe those two words are antonyms.

Conservatives are about smaller government and putting more power in the hands of state and local governments.

Conservatives and Liberals both want what is best for the country. They both just believe that there is only one way to go about it, which isn't true.

Because conservatives have forgotten one crucial element about this country. Freedom. Conservatives tend to look down upon those who do not have the same political AND religious beliefs as they do, for they feel as though their beliefs are the RIGHT beliefs... kinda sounds like the beliefs of Hitler don't you think. This country was founded on the idea that people should be have freedom over their choice of beliefs, and that idea is slowly fading.

Liberals do not actually get Liberals or even themselves. Here is an example. Harry Reid said today that not one more drop of American blood should be spilled in Iraq. This just after he passed a resolution funding the war for another 18 months and then withdrawing. If he really meant what he said then there should be no more funding for the war and the troops should come home now. Something seems wrong here.

Anyway I hope you see my point.

You mean protecting the country by leaving our borders and harbors wide open while chasing those not responsible for 9-11 accross the middle east? We all want to protect America, but that is not what the war in Iraq is about. If the President really wanted to protect our country, it would not still be wide open for attack.

Because our parents refused to sign off on the lobotomization form. But I hear President Bush is trying to work around that loophole, so there may be more conservatives on their way, soon....

SERIOUSLY....we all want to protect the country. But curtailing civil liberties and not regulating our borders (remember Bush's Dubai Ports deal?) isn't how to go about it. Same goals, different ideas, and even conservatives are split amongst themselves about how best to do that.
