I did the same and was terrified. Doctor assured me that a lot of people do it and everything will be fine. Doc said it's really the people who drink throughout the pregnancy (alcoholics who can't stop) who should be concerned. Statistics on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome are exagerated in order to scare pregnant women sober.

PS - Baby is 1 month old and healthy as can be. :)

Good luck on your pregnancy!

You should be fine!

If you did heavy binge type drinking you may want to discuss having an amniocentisis (a test that could help determine if your baby has any abnormalities) with your doctor. Often times women who are pregnant (but dont know) engage in habits such as smoking or drinking and their babies come out fine. My doctor is a mother of 4 and said that she actually drank wine occasionally through her second pregnancy (small amounts of 4 oz or less). All of her babies are healthy as lambs and just as cute. Although she (nor I) reccomend it; she says generally doctors say NO ALCOHOL because a sip could lead to a gulp, and a gulp to a glass. And if you ever struggeled with alcoholism it will become easier and easier for you to justify your drinking habit which isnt good for the baby.

I am 5 months pregnant but I didnt find out until my 3rd month; I hadnt done any drinking but I actually smoked marijuana and ciggarettes up until my second month. One day I decided I would quit smoking and a few weeks later I found out I was pregnant. I discussed with my doctor the risks of my actions, and my baby should be healthy. I am considering an amniocentisis but I doubt I will get one; I talked with 11 different women who had smoked marijuana before finding out they were pregnant and a few who smoked throughout the pregnancy. 9 of the 11 babies are in perfect health, 1 has asthma and the other adhd. (The latter mother smoked up until the baby was born!) I just pray that God will bless me with a healthy baby and continue to eat healthy, excercise (lightly), and stay away from ciggarettes and marijuana.

Everything will be fine. I had a friend that didn't know she was pregnant until the moment she delivered and drank throughout, since she didn't know, including the night of the delivery and the baby has been cleared by a specialist. A few drinks early on won't hurt anything.

Put your mind at ease as you will probably have an ultrasound soon and your baby will be fine :-). You did the best thing for your baby by not drinking anymore once you did find out. As long as you weren't binge drinking during that month, more than likely any problems that would be detected wouldn't be caused by a few casual drinks in the beginning. Congrats and good luck with the new little one!

The first trimester is most criticle getting all the basics set up. If you are 4 months now and everything is going well, like the size, then I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.
There are loads of people that drink the first month because they don't know they are pregnant yet. I did and my children turned out just fine.
It's normal to worry about this stuff but try not to :)

Don't worry. I was two weeks pregnant when I went on a 7 day cruise to Mexico and I had no idea! I drank like a fish almost the WHOLE time! My doctor said not to worry about it bc it was way early. You're fine.
