Lets just think about this for a moment...if your oven is on fire and it burns up then the next thing to go would be your kitchen, then your house and you. So let's put off getting out of the house and calling the fire dept. and go sit down, log in and ask us on Yahoo Answer what to do...Maybe you should just give up cooking and stay on here to amuse us!

Well, this seems suspiciously fake. Oh well. For anyone else, close the oven door, turn off the power. It is okay to turn on the range hood fan if the fire is only in the oven but turn off the fan if the fire comes out of the oven vent under an element. Stovetop fires: turn off fan, slide a metal cookie sheet over the burning pan, use baking soda, or an ABC or BC fire extinguisher (white powder inside, usually white or red extinguisher)

whether gas or electric - throw on some baking soda. make sure the electricity or gas is turn off. Don't use water - electrical stove will follow the water back to you. most fires in stoves are flames on the grease / cooking oil - water will just spread the fire. BAKING SODA or get a small firer extinguisher - If the fire was big - call the fire department just so the can confirm all embers are out.

That depends on what you are trying to cook. If it was hot dogs, you are very fortunate because you can still get the job done! Just skewer the hot dog and hold it close to the flames. When you figure it is cooked through, place it in a bun and dress with condiments to taste... Come on, nobody with a flaming oven would take time to post it here.

what kind of fire?
is your food on fire?
does your over just starts of fire when you turn it on?
you can always call the Gas Company to take a look at your stove and they will tell you if your over/stove is in good condition or if it's a potential problem.... if it's a potential problem he will tell you to get a new one.
it's always better to be Safe then Sorry!
always keep a fire extinguisher on hand and learn how to use it.
Good Luck!
