Tell him exactly what you told us....that there are no spouses allowed. Did the company give you any information that states that anywhere? If so, show it to him so that he does not think you're fibbing. Make sure you tell him you wish he could go because you'd love to spend the time with him instead of the stuffy old codgers you're going with.
Good luck

Just tell him its business. I worked at a company where I was winning trips all over the place, but they were just for the top 10% of the company sales team. So no spouses.... I've never been in a relationship where they cared.

Well if these are the rules of the trip i am sure your husband will have to understand. Unless he wants you to abstain from the trip what would he really expect you to do? The two of you find yourselves in this role reversal situation and he will have to except it for what it is. Short of keeping him in an adjacent living arrangement on the sly I have no clue as to what your husband expects.

First off, why would your firm not allow spouses to come along? That's sounds pretty crazy to me, like there is some other agenda than just business.

Tell your firm that if your spouse can not go, then neither can you.
I've worked in law firms for 25 years. I KNOW for a fact that you can opt out! If it means that much to your husband, then you MUST PUT HIM FIRST and tell the firm that you will not be able to attend.

If that is company policy and he isn't allowed and has taken the wifely role, than tell him either accept or I quit and start making the living. He'll be happy after you tell him that , he'll help you pack your clothes

Hurt? hey...work is work. Sure. Who wouldn't like to go but the company says nix on spouses so there it is. He'll have to live with it, that's all.

Tell him the company set the rules and you only abide by them. Deal with it, you do.

There's really nothing to discuss. It is the firm's decision, and not yours. You can tell him, "Honey, I'm really sorry, but this is not my decision...".
