No not if it is a high school textbook given to you for the class and you have to give it back. If its a college book you purchased - sure. Why not make photocopies of the pages and highlight them and use them to study? Pax - C.

If you bought it, then sure! isn't that why you bought it??

If you didn't and it belongs to the school, then you could, but you would have to pay for the "Damage" (the highlighting)
