Totally, just the fact that parents would have more time &
money to spend on their children could tremendously
curb the crime rate.
40 hours a week is absolutely possible with 10 hr. work days.
Many nurses are already doing three, 12 hr. days/wk.

Who wouldn't want a four day work week? And in fact, if this occurred, businesses could function 7 days per week...with a second shift to cover the additional days off.
To be truthful, people should be thinking about the economy, and not their lifestyle when discussing this issue. How can America remain competitive if business is shut down for three days each week?
As for a higher pay scale...that too is all about economics. I think that people should earn what they work for...and salaries are not entitlements.

No, but there should be four weeks of vacation instead of just two. It's a well known fact that taking regular vacations improves productivity and work morale - it would make up for the two fewer weeks of work where people just sit on their desk unproductively anyhow. And it would benefit the economy, contrary to a 4 day week.

Yeah so would a limitless open bar. And while you're at it clone Catherine DeNeuve about 150 million times so every American man can have her.
What are you going to to, wave a magic wand and make money appear without increasing CPI, and make all the stuff that gets done on Fridays do itself?

One benefit of such a proposal would be having more time to take second and third jobs in order to pay for the ever escalating prices of food, homes and goods, including gas.

I like being able to work when I feel like it, but it should not be government mandated. Artificial wage increases would lead to higher unemployment, a free market response to an increase in costs.

Free market - if a company chooses to attract better workers that way, then more power too them, but I do not think the government has the right to tell companies to run their business that way.

Someone will have to pay those people more for 4 days of work. How do you think those people will feel?

Let me get this straight, more money for less work. From a personal standpoint I would say great, because I will admit I'm lazy. However, I think this would be terrible for the economy.

I'd be just as happy with a 5 day work week and much lower income taxes.
