No sadly not, we have been given a bad name in Europe by football yobs, council estate types who think of nothing better than to get out of their heads on booze and p*** off the locals, followed by fish and chip bars and English breakfasts. Our image is not good and we are not all like that. Whats wrong with the saying "When in Rome do as the Romans do" ! After all why go abroad if your not interested in other peoples cultures. Have a sunbed instead and stay in a BB in Blackpool.

I wouldn't be proud to be British if I was. Maybe Scottish or Welsh, but definitely not English. Do you realise how many countries all over the world hate you guys?! The only reason you have America on your side is 'coz Blair is licking GWB's ***.

You should put yourself in the shoes of the people from your country's former colonies. Dig into your horrible history a bit and find out what kind of monarchy you've really had and what they really did to those colonised countries. Then you mightn't be so proud.

By the way, yes, I'm Irish... when we go to the continent people are wary of us at first because they think we are English by our skin tone and speech. But once they find out we are Irish then they can't do enough for us.

I'm not being racist, I have no personal problem with English people, as most Irish people don't (recent proof of that was the first time the English anthem was played for rugby in Ireland's Croke Park - previously only for Irish sports - and the crowd stayed quiet). But we do not have any allegiance or loyalty to you England. If you knew your history properly you'd see why.

Yes I'm proud to be British (and Scottish)

PS I must agree with Keep it, most Scots, Welsh & Irish dislike the English, "Hate with a passion" is too strong, anyway the rest of the world do that for us.
(Unless anyone knows a nation who on the whole like the English?)

In my case being British is simply a inheritance from my British ancestors. Why would you be proud of that? Would you be proud to be born out of wedlock? If you want to be proud of something be proud of your personal achievements.

The legacy that Britain has left to the world is obvious and I would just point out to our American contributers that is in our language that they are contributing .

We are the desendants of people who survived plagues, invasions, battles, wars.

We forget these days with electricty and home conforts that once upon a time ancestors had it rough and came out on top.

We are the result/decendants of true survivours and fighters.
