Nope. It is traditional, but not always followed, that the parents of the bride pay for the wedding. But no dowries.

Maybe the replacement for the old fashioned dowry is the tradition of the brides parents paying for the wedding. The giving of a dowry and bride price is still practiced in many places of the world but, like Venezuela, but not here. Hope this helps and everyone else needs to stop making fun of different cultures!

There are many customs followed in the US but dowry has been out for a long time. Now the customs are more religion and family based.
I really hope that you don't feel that you will be a burden to whomever you marry. I hope that you and he both feel honored to have each other and are happy to support and love each other.

Nope..
Dowries have never been part of the American culture...
The only remaining vestige of the dowry in America is the custom of the wifes parents paying for the wedding...

What kind of brainwashed crap is that???????????
Who ever told you that YOU or women in general are a burden to anyone has a serious problem with sexism!
Women are going to school, getting degrees, adopting or raising children on their own without the help of any man. And in most cases, it's the man that's being the burden in the relationship!

How blessed you are to be able to experience love like you have from your awesome and godly father.
To answer your question, no. It is sad that these Americans will embrace porn and atheism, but will ignore noble customs that made our country great.
Besides, after your spouse takes on the burden of you, should he at least not get a goat in return?

No because women aren't currency anymore. If a man wants to marry a woman - it is his PRIVELAGE, he shouldn't expect to be paid to marry her although he has done a good deed. He should see it as a blessing to marry her - not expect something in return.
