Haleys Hints - how to clean the range hood filter above my stove?

I saw this on Haley's hints on PBS, but I can't remember what he said. Water softener...cream of tartar...ammonia...baking soda...a combination of some of these things. Anyone else remember?

I didn't see that episode, but I put my range hood filter in the dish water or 30 minutes it was clean after that.Try spraying Kaboom on it that will help too.

We put ours in the dish washer. don't know about Haley?
