I have used them all and without doubt prefer the DeWalt. Only advice I can give that is better than those previous is for you to buy the highest voltage model that you can afford. Higher voltage = longer use time and more power.

I've been a DeWalt fan for almost 20 years. The 12V drill/driver from 1994 still has the original batteries. The 18V 5 1/4" circ saw from 5 years ago already needed new batteries. The key is to use cordless tools quite often. When they sit without being used the batteries don't seem to hold a charge for long, maybe that's why the drill has lasted 17 years. If you buy from the big box stores the tool is not the same. Most of them are speced out with plastic gears & parts, get them from a tool store, lumber yard etc.

It really depends on what you are going to need your drill for.
Are you looking for a drill for simple household tasks or professional use, such as in a wood shop or carpentry work?
Cordless drills come in different come in different voltages but 14.4 volt drills are probably the most common and are usually adequate enough.
If all you really need is a drill from household and occasional use Skil offers a 14.4 drill for under $100. Don't expect the battery life to last very long before you are going to have to recharge it.
For professional use you're going to need something with more stamina and torque. According to Tautons (Fine Woodworking Magazine) new Tool Guide for 2007 Milwaukee 0615-24 is the best overall with Porter-Cable 9978 in a close second.
Personally I have a 14.4 DeWalt that I used to use daily in a cabinetmaking shop and was satisfied with it. Make sure you get an extra battery no matter what brand you choose so you can keep one charging while using the other.
Also expect to pay close to $200 or more for an industrial grade drill.

DeWalt is definitely the best. Makita is pretty good. DeWalt uses good batteries and they just build them with stronger materials to last longer and not break. Most any contractor would recommend DeWalt as the best.

I have been impressed with Black & Decker's line called:
Firestorm. They seem well thought out. The drill is very impressive. I use mine all the time, last night in fact, and it has lots of power.

I would go hitachi, ridgid, then makita. I would strongly recommend not to buy black and decker. Actually I woundn't buy any of those. Milwaukee cordless tools far exceed any of those.

Dewalt and Makita are good brands, I have both.
