I do not understand why so many people are glued to the tube when American Idol comes on. I really do not know what other feelings it provokes except probably a very minimal emotional response of "... one day, I could be Sanjaya...". Could anyone give me a little bit of enlightenment?

One reason, it is widely advertised.
Another reason, it makes the public feel that they are involved in the decision making by being able to vote. I think that is the biggest thing. Everyone likes to be in control of a situation and that is one way to feel in control.
I had to stop watching because I got a little disgusted with the whole process. I love listening to the contestants sing, but I don't believe the voters are always correct.

It's just a show....for entertainment...getting boring...people are conspiring now to keep the worst singer on instead of voting for the best singer.

I t think because it is true. People that win go on to become grammy winning even Oscar winning singers/actors. It makes the winner's dreams come true. Which other show on TV have their winners gone on to have such huge success? Zero.

And because the show produces winners in the entertainment industry, people really care who's going to be the next one.

I think it's because people like to have a sense of control, and the voting process gives them that. Isn't is all so silly?

i think of usa, or maximum if no longer all has grow to be captivated with different peoples lives and excitement by using fact by way of their eyes their existence won't be as pleasurable as they make it seem...i assume its purely that each and everything is leisure..yet its depressing that we've further ourselves to be amused with different human beings's drama and gossip. i do no longer precisely think of that it particularly is all mindless i think of it is going to become mindless as quickly as a guy or woman does no longer something with their existence yet difficulty themselves with gossip etc.
