Buy me a pony?

Question

I really really want one.......

First of all, I'm 24.

Second of all, I've worked with horses quite a bit in life, I would just like to own my own now.

Third, if I had the 10k to buy my own pony, why would I ask someone else to do it for me?

Well, if you really really want a pony then you could save your money for one, and buy one!

I'm sure you must have a job, or will be getting a job soon if you are still in school, then you will have some money. Set some aside every paycheck in a piggy bank (or a pony bank!). Throw the change you get back from purchases in there as well. When you get enough, start looking for a horse! There are good horses out there for under $1000! Check tack and feed stores, they have listings. Good barns where the horses are well cared for is another place to check.

If you are experienced, check out local shelters and horse rescues. You would be amazed at the sorts of horses at those places, and the adoption fees are less than what it would be to buy a lot of horses!

Or, another situation is a lease. You may or may not have to care for it depending on the terms of the lease, but it is a nice way to be around horses and get some riding time! There are even free leases!!

I'm sure you know that horses are a lot of money, not so much in the initial purchase price, but just daily care and if you have to board it somewhere!

And remember, if you are gonna buy a horse, work with it on the ground, do a test ride, and most importantly, get a vet check by a vet you trust and doesn't work for the owner!

Volunteer at a local shelter-see if there's one for horses in your area! In South Florida we have the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)-anyone can volunteer, no matter your age. You might need your parent's permission if you're underage, though. But you get to learn first-hand all the work that is involved in having your own horse (grooming, mucking stalls, feeding), you get to help the horses recover from neglect or abuse by loving them and teaching them to trust again (there's nothing like the twinkling look of gratitude you'll get) AND you might get first dibs on actually adopting a pony, if you and your family can provide the right kind of home for it. (You must be approved for this first by the organization, though.)
If not, sign up for riding lessons-at least you'll get to be around horses and learn how to ride and take care of them. That's what I did when my family couldn't afford to get me a horse.

Why do you want someone else to buy you a pony? Find a way to earn your own. If your not old enough to make the money required to buy and keep a pony then you shouldn't have one. So sorry NO I will not buy you a pony.

don't buy a pony if you dont know anything about horses or you have never ridden before. Its better for you and the horse. Learn to ride first then earn money for one when your old and know more about horses

I lucked out and found my registered gelding online for 700 bucks. Hes the best horse i have ever had. I sold my other two i had before him, and kept him. I spent more on the other two. www.equinehits.com is the site where i found my magical boy!

I have two horses at home....believe me it's hard work ....lots of money, lots of time....Think twice before you ask for horses, I like it but it's not for everyone
